At the gateway to Arequipa’s high plateau lies Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, a natural sanctuary that seems suspended in time. Departing at 07:00, you ascend to 4,000 metres above sea level to enter a landscape dominated by high-altitude wetlands, Andean lagoons and herds of vicuñas, the Andes’ finest-fleeced and most elusive camelid, grazing in complete freedom.
With the Misti and Chachani volcanoes in the background, this route is ideal for lovers of nature, wildlife photography and the silence of the highlands. The tour returns to Arequipa around 13:00, leaving travellers with an unforgettable image of the city’s wild, lesser-known surroundings.
