  Day 1: Cusco – Ausangate 7 Lakes – Cusco Cusco → Ausangate → Cusco

  Beneath the watchful presence of Ausangate, the most revered apu in Cusco’s Andean worldview, lie seven glacial lakes forming one of southern Peru’s most spectacular high-mountain treks. Departing at 04:00, the route gradually climbs above 4,700 metres, crossing Andean tundra landscapes and herds of alpacas and vicuñas before reaching the lakes. Each has a different shade of blue and turquoise depending on its mineral composition and depth.
  
  Snow-capped Ausangate, rising above 6,300 metres, dominates the horizon throughout the route, creating a setting that combines mountaineering, the living culture of Quechua communities and virtually untouched nature. The return to Cusco is completed around 19:00.
