How much should you set aside for Peru in 2027? This guide compares two travel styles and three trip lengths, showing the assumptions behind every range. These are planning estimates prepared in October 2026, not confirmed 2027 prices.
Quick answer: for an illustrative 7-day Lima–Cusco–Machu Picchu trip, allow roughly USD 800–1,190 per person when travelling independently or USD 1,195–1,840 for a more comfortable style. A 10-day trip works out at USD 1,100–1,650 or USD 1,600–2,500; 14 days at USD 1,600–2,430 or USD 2,290–3,480. These are planning ranges, not quotations or official 2027 prices.
We assume one person sharing a double room, travelling on the example routes below and paying for accommodation, meals, local travel and an allowance for intercity transport, admission and selected activities. International travel is excluded, as are insurance, personal purchases and special services. Solo rooms, premium trains and upgraded hotels can increase the total substantially.
Quick budget for 7, 10 and 14 days
| Trip length and example route | Independent | Comfortable |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days: Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu | USD 800–1,190 | USD 1,195–1,840 |
| 10 days: above + Ica/Paracas | USD 1,100–1,650 | USD 1,600–2,500 |
| 14 days: above + Arequipa/Puno | USD 1,600–2,430 | USD 2,290–3,480 |
The low end is not a guaranteed deal: it assumes availability, shared rooms and restrained choices. The high end of each range does not cover luxury travel, international flights or every optional excursion. Add a separate 10%–15% buffer if you want protection against changing prices.
How the estimates are calculated
The formula is days × daily allowance + an allowance for intercity transport, Machu Picchu and activities. Independent travel assumes USD 50–70 per day: USD 25–40 per person for a shared double room, USD 15–20 for food and USD 10 for local transport. Comfortable travel assumes USD 85–120 daily: USD 45–70 for shared lodging, USD 25–35 for meals and USD 15 for local transport. These are editorial assumptions, not published hotel or restaurant rates.
| Trip length | Independent | Comfortable |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days | USD 450–700 | USD 600–1,000 |
| 10 days | USD 600–950 | USD 750–1,300 |
| 14 days | USD 900–1,450 | USD 1,100–1,800 |
For example, the independent 7-day low case is 7 × USD 50 + USD 450 = USD 800; the upper case is 7 × USD 70 + USD 700 = USD 1,190. As an October 2026 reference, our Classic Machu Picchu tour is listed from USD 330 per person for two travellers and includes rail, admission, bus and guiding, subject to availability. That is why an additional allowance also covering travel from Lima should not be mistaken for the admission fee alone. Choosing a bus instead of a flight, a standard rather than a panoramic train, or a private tour changes this allowance. Check Machu Picchu admission on the official TuBoleto portal and the Cusco Tourist Ticket with COSITUC for your date; a 2026 admission rate is not a confirmed 2027 rate.
For context, PromPerú reported that surveyed international visitors in 2024 stayed an average of 12 days and spent USD 1,417, excluding air or land tickets. That is a historical average across different visitors and itineraries, not a 2027 price forecast or a like-for-like quotation for our table.
Example itinerary for each trip length

7 days: Lima, Cusco and one Machu Picchu visit. This focused route limits hotel changes. Leave enough time to reach Cusco and coordinate the train, admission and return without risky connections.
10 days: add Paracas and Ica/Huacachina. Budget for the leg from Lima, optional activities and the onward journey to Cusco. You do not need to purchase every Ica excursion for a short stop.
14 days: add Arequipa and Puno/Lake Titicaca as an example. The itinerary is more varied but involves longer travel days, altitude considerations and possibly domestic flights. If you prefer less time in transit, spend more nights in Cusco and the Sacred Valley instead.
Costs to budget for separately

- Travel from abroad: fares depend on departure country, dates and baggage, so they are not in the table.
- Machu Picchu admission and train: these are separate purchases; check circuit, entry time, station and change rules before paying.
- Insurance, tips and shopping: these depend on your circumstances and are excluded.
- Solo rooms: the model assumes two people sharing. Solo travellers need to recalculate accommodation.
- Currency: USD makes scenarios easier to compare, but some costs are paid in Peruvian soles. Check the exchange rate and card fees when paying.
How to adjust the budget to your trip
- Set your route first: every extra city adds transfers and uses up sightseeing time.
- Compare like-for-like quotes: use the same dates and check lodging, trains, domestic travel and tour inclusions.
- Separate confirmed from pending: a quote is not an issued Machu Picchu admission ticket.
- Do not double count: subtract any trains, admission or guiding already included in a package.
- Keep a buffer: allow an extra 10%–15% for changes and unexpected costs, especially when booking far ahead.

Frequently asked questions
Are these confirmed prices for Peru in 2027?
No. They are editorial planning ranges prepared on October 12, 2026 with explicit assumptions. Check actual prices when booking.
Does the budget include international flights?
No. Travel from your home country is separate; the model does allow for connections within Peru.
Does a tour package include everything in the table?
Not necessarily. Check whether lodging, meals, domestic transport, Machu Picchu admission, train, guide and transfers are included, and do not count included services twice.
How much contingency should I add?
As a planning rule, set aside an extra 10% to 15% for price changes and unexpected expenses. This is not an official fee.
